The sequel of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” blockbuster will not be released in the summer of 2015 as planned before. The movie is due for release in 2016, as reported by the informed sources. Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the successful project, explains why the shooting of the sequel entitled “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” has been postponed to a later date.
According to the producer, the creators of the project did not accept the script written by screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, and the work is being redone at the moment. A source, close to the film shooting process, said that the proposed script “demanded too much money and was very difficult and confusing.”
Meanwhile, journalists and film industry experts believe that the cause may be different: the previous project of the Disney studio, “The Lone Ranger”, with Johnny Depp in the title role, was a failure in box offices. Does it explain the fear of the film company bosses to invest millions of dollars in the “Pirates” sequel?
We would like to remind that “The Lone Ranger”, released last summer, has not delighted the critics, and its creators have been disappointed by low box office revenues. The starring actors Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, as well as Bruckheimer himself, stated that the critics could be blamed for the failure of the motion picture. After the failure of the movie, Depp hinted at the fact that he could quit acting in the big movie industry in the nearest future.
According to a number of publications, the Disney studio is ready to invest only 200 million dollars in the shooting of the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, but this sum of money is unlikely to be enough for the filmmakers. The last “Pirates” movie cost 250 million dollars. And its total earnings worldwide exceeded one billion dollars.
The media also have doubts whether the Disney studio suspects the public to be tired of Johnny Depp’s character Jack Sparrow and is therefore afraid to run the risk and spend millions.
